Þórður Sævar Jónsson, Vellankatla (Partus, 2019). 64-page paperback, section-sewn with French flaps and velvet lamination. Printed lithographically. 210 x 140 mm.
Vellenkatla is Þórður Sævar’s debut collection of poems. The book is named after a natural spring below Þingvallavatni, a lake in south-west Iceland. The poems are celebrations and evocations of water, often explored through experiments in form and layout. The inevitable tension between the fluid and the geometric, between flow and grid, was the inspiration for this cover. A digitally adjusted topographic map of a lake bed provides a grid for the letters of the title and the poet’s name.
